Privacy

Last updated 28 October 2026

This policy explains what vototruck.com ("VotoTruck", "we") collects and why. Questions or requests: hello@vototruck.com.

What we collect

  • Your email, when you sign in or join the waitlist, plus which button you tapped (Vote, Notify me…), the page you were on, and when. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we get your email from them (Apple may give us a private relay address).
  • When you vote (once open, or as an invited tester): your email, the street, how many ice creams, your codes, and the payment status. Card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store your card number.
  • Your first name, only if you tick "Show my first name to neighbours". Otherwise neighbours only see a count.
  • Technical data: your IP address is used for a short time to stop abuse (too many tries); those counters are deleted within about a day. Error reports (Sentry) contain technical details about the error, not your email. One cookie, __session, carries your sign-in to our server while you're signed in; we use no ad or tracking cookies.

Your location

  • The home page asks your browser for your location to show streets near you. Saying no is fine: we then pick a city from your browser's time zone, or show Tampa.
  • If you allow it, your browser uses your location to find nearby streets on the map it already shows. Your location never reaches our server, and we never store it or link it to you or your email.

Why we use it

  • To sign you in, send your codes and the emails about your votes (You're in, Truck's coming, Truck is here, Not this time), and to tell you once when VotoTruck opens near you if you joined the waitlist.
  • To run payments for the ice cream company and to keep the site safe.
  • We don't sell your data and we don't use it for ads.

Who helps us

These services process data for us, only to run VotoTruck:

  • Supabase: database and sign-in
  • Stripe: card payments (also its own privacy policy applies to your card)
  • Resend: sending our emails
  • Google Cloud and Firebase Hosting: running the website
  • Sentry: error reports
  • Cloudflare Turnstile: the "I'm human" check on email sign-in
  • Google and Apple: only if you choose to sign in with them
  • OpenFreeMap (map tiles, also used to find nearby streets) and Photon (street search), both with OpenStreetMap data: your browser asks them for map data; no email or account data is sent

Some of these services are in the United States, so your data may be stored or processed there.

Your choices

  • Email us to see the data we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it (including leaving the waitlist). We answer within 30 days.
  • Sign out any time from the menu.
  • Data about a vote is kept as long as we need it for the payment, refunds and the company's records, then deleted.

Changes

We'll update this page when what we collect changes; the date at the top shows the last change.
